Flooring can completely transform a space. It can brighten up a dark room, or bring a fresh look to a drab hallway. Unfortunately, flooring is also expensive.  You can price out the difference between hardwood and laminate, evaluate the pros and cons of linoleum and vinyl, but at the end of the day, flooring is always pricey. Up until now there haven’t really been beautiful flooring options for a budget.

Flooring needs to be durable, easy-to-clean, and above all beautiful. Well, now we have discovered four ways you can transform the floors you have to create a fresh new look at a budget friendly price.

Paint:floors-1-1

Who knew you could paint floors? Well, you can; and it’s easier than you think. These are both examples of linoleum floors that have been painted, and they turned out absolutely beautiful. Valspar actually makes porch and floor paint that is extra durable, and can be mixed to match any color. The floor was prepped with a thorough cleaning, primed with KILZ and then painted with a roller.  What a beautiful result!

Lath:floors-2

DIY hardwood floors are not for the faint of heart, but the results speak for themselves. Lath floors is one type of DIY hardwood, you can also use plywood cut into tiles or planks. Lath is the thin narrow strip of wood used to nail to rafters or joists as a groundwork for tiles or plaster. They generally aren’t a standard size or width, but come in inexpensive bundles. This makes them more budget friendly, but slightly more difficult to work with. Arrange the strips of lath directly on top of the floor, attach with a nail gun and fill in the holes with wood filler. This type of flooring looks best painted, and you can’t argue with those beautiful results!floors-2

Stencil:

Stencils are one of the most creative ways to update old flooring, and works particularly well on tile. You can find stencils in a wide range of styles online. Choose the stencil in the size and style that you prefer. Place the stencil directly on the tile using painters tape to keep it in place. Use any color you’d like and gently roll over the design stencil. It takes a little bit of time and patience, but the results are jaw-dropping.floors-3

Rubber Flooring:

If you have an unfinished garage or basement used for storage, or a home gym, or a play area – it can be difficult to find flooring. Most often homeowners will try to find a large carpet sample, but that can be hard to find and piece together. Rubber flooring provides a great alternative to traditional flooring. It is easy to install, extremely durable, budget friendly, and can be moved wherever you need it.
