Design DIY Ideas

Walk into any home improvement, or hobby store and you’ll see crates. Crates are all the rage right now because they are completely versatile and easy to use for about a billion projects around the house. Keep the classic crate for cute storage, paint it for a kids bedroom, or grab several crates and tackle one of these DIY crate projects.

Your friends will think you spent hours creating custom furniture that can be pulled together in an afternoon thanks to the miracle of the wooden crate.

    Bench

I love this bench idea, it is one of my favorite crate projects.  Create extra seating indoor or outdoor with bonus shoe storage.

    Wall Storage

From shoe storage to wall storage, this DIY projects takes crates and puts them right where you need them, for additional storage in bathrooms, bedrooms, or anywhere in between.

    Nightstand

This is a classic idea from Simply Real Style that creates a nightstand out of a simple crate. It’s beautiful, versatile, and works perfectly for adults or kids alike. It also makes a great last-minute project to create a comfortable space for out-of-town guests.

    Coffee Table

No need to spend hundreds of dollars on high end furniture to create that farmhouse look in your living room. Crates create the perfect coffee table, with room to spare, storage space, and a style that is unmatched.

    Buffet Table

There is a special place in my heart for buffet tables. Something about the perfect table in the perfect space brings a room together. I love this idea using several crates and a wooden top to create a one-of-a-kind piece.

    Toy Storage

Operation Toy Room Complete. Crates make a great way to keep kids toys corralled without throwing them all in one giant toybox.

    Laundry Room

The laundry room is perhaps the one room in the house where I can always use more storage. That’s why I can’t get enough of this easy and inexpensive laundry room makeover that gives extra storage where it’s needed most with the help of a few crates.

    Shoes!

If you have a large family and you’re sick of floating shoes all over the place, welcome to the mother of all shoe storage. Of course, it can be scaled down for a smaller family, or it can be filled up to the brim with room to spare.

    Shelves

I love this idea of stacked shelves. They are close enough to the floor to make them easily accessible for kids without looking cluttered. A perfect addition to a mudroom, family room, kids bedroom, or hallway.

 Parking Garage

This is one of my favorite ideas for the little men in your life. A crate and a little PVC pipe makes a perfect parking garage. To me, it looks like it came straight from Santa’s workshop. In fact, I think Santa might need to start working on these crate projects STAT.
